PhD Programme in Biology
The degree programme is carried out in English, within a full-time, four-year system. The programme of studies covers courses representing various areas of biological sciences, includes training in modern methodology and mastering skills useful in a professional academic and non-academic career. The choice of facultative classes and the possibility of gaining credits for courses offered outside of the University ensures flexibility and helps to adjust participation in classes to the individual research plan of the student.
PhD students are recruited to the specific research topics offered by potential doctoral advisors. Each year, PhD students and their doctoral advisors/supervisors write a research plan for the given year. The academic research progress might be additionally overviewed by an advisory team, which can be (optionally) appointed by the doctoral advisor/supervisor.
Doctoral dissertations are prepared under the supervision of the academic staff of the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences (members of the Institute of Botany, the Institute of Environmental Sciences or the Institute of Zoology and Biomedical Research). The study programme leads to a scientific Doctoral title in the discipline of Biology or Ecology.
